Obituary for Juanice Manley Hathcock

Juanice Manley Hathcock, 85 (although she would never tell you that), born April 30, 1932 in Quitman, Mississippi, passed away at Forest Manor Nursing Facility, Tuscaloosa, AL, surrounded by family on November 29, 2017. Juanice was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Cora Manley; her first husband, Elmer Day (who passed away much too young) and her second husband, James Lee "Buddy" Hathcock (a devoted husband and loving family member); three sisters, Willie Maude Manley, Laurine Morris (Houston), and June McKenzie (Virgil); two brothers, Horace Manley and Tommy (Mary) Manley; and her grandson Zachary Daniel Day. She is survived by her son Charles Day (Nancy Campbell); grandchildren Ashley Marie Day and Charles Matthew Day (Michelle); great-grandchildren Emma Day and Jack Day; step-son Edwin Glenn Hathcock; step-daughter Regina Diane O'Dell (David); step-grandchildren Casey John O'Dell (Katie) and Kelly Chandler; step-great-grandchildren Sydne O'Dell, Addy O'Dell, and Shelby Chandler; and other relatives and family friends. Juanice is remembered as a loving wife, mother, MawMaw, and friend. She worked briefly as a secretary in a law office and was also an Avon representative, but her primary roles were that of homemaker, musician, and fashion maven. A lifelong Christian, she and her sisters formed a gospel singing trio during their teens, and she and her son sang duets in church when he was a child. She played piano very well "by ear" and continued playing almost all her life. A longtime resident of Mobile, Juanice was a member over the years of Navaco Baptist Church, Azalea Baptist Church, and Dauphin Way Baptist Church. She and husband Buddy moved to Tuscaloosa in 2009 and lived in the Springhill Lake neighborhood as well as Crimson Village Retirement Center before moving into Forest Manor. Her final resting place is in Mobile Memorial Gardens, Mobile, AL.
