Obituary for Jane Hearn Lee

Jane Hearn Lee

Jane Hearn Lee

TUSCALOOSA – Jane Hearn Lee died November, 15, 2016, after a short, hard fought illness. She was two weeks away from her 90th birthday.
Jane grew up in a railroad family, her father, Victor J. Hearn (VJ), a longtime GM & O employee. Her mother, Erline Moore Hearn was a Northport native. Although a child of the Great Depression and World War II, Jane remembered a happy childhood in Tuscaloosa's West End, including fond memories of swimming in Stallworth Lake in downtown Tuscaloosa.
She was an honor graduate of Tuscaloosa High School in 1944 where her senior yearbook quote proved to be prophetic, "Mingle a little folly with your wisdom". Until the end, Jane was smart, intellectually curious, witty and slightly mischievous.
Following graduation, Jane worked ten years at Gulf States Paper as secretary to the sales manager. She then transitioned to a career as a legal secretary and paralegal, first with the law firm of Zeanah & Donald. Following a stint with the Tuscaloosa District Attorney's Office, she returned to the Zeanah firm. She ultimately served at the Court House as Judicial secretary to Judge Karrh, retiring in 1988.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Thurman W. Lee, a 42-year Uniroyal Goodrich employee. She leaves no survivors but many special friends whose lives she touched.
She was active in the community, as a volunteer at Northport Medical Center, a charter member and state president of the legal secretaries association, a member of Community Bible Study and a lifetime member of the First Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Croft officiating and arrangements by Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North.
A special thank you to those who supported Jane during her illness-the A-Team of Gayla Hurter and Leanne Spencer, William Hurter, Dr. George Miller and Dr. Demetrius Zak, the nurses and staff at the Cancer Center of Tuscaloosa and Hospice of West Alabama, special caregivers, Cleola Hopkins and Earline Jernigan, the Honorable Walt Maddox, the Honorable, Jo Bonner and Wayne Williams.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of West Alabama. 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa AL 35404.
